An Integrated Pest Management Workshop for Housing and Facility Managers

Midwest Pesticide Action Center is hosting a full-day workshop on integrated pest management. This workshop will provide needed insight into the spread of bed bugs beyond large urban centers with a focus on creating a comprehensive integrated pest management (IPM) program. Dr. Dini Miller will present on the latest strategies for bed bug control. Dr. Miller will be joined by experts to discuss rodent control and general IPM strategies for controlling pests. A presentation on how to contract with a pest control professional will round out this comprehensive workshop. Lunch and other refreshments will be provided. Managers of multi-unit housing, senior housing, shelters and transitional housing, and client service providers are encouraged to attend.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has also approved 5 hours of continuing education credit for registered Illinois pest control professionals who attend this workshop (please inquire for additional details).


Featured Speaker: Dini Miller, Ph.D.
Professor of Urban Pest Management, Department of Entomology, Virginia Tech
Dr. Miller has won numerous awards for her work in urban entomology including the pest control industry’s Crown Leadership Award, the Entomological Society of America’s (Eastern Branch) Distinguished Achievement Award in Extension, the Gamma Sigma Delta Award of Merit in Extension and most recently the 2012 Virginia Tech University Alumni Award for Excellence in Extension.

Other instructors include Ruth Kerzee, Executive Director of Midwest Pesticide Action Center; Mike Swoyer, Supervisor of Rat Control of Kansas City; Bryan Nichols, Advanced Maintenance and Pest Solutions; and a demonstration by Canine Inspection and Detection Services. These notable pest management experts will also be available for a question and answer session on state and local issues, code, and policy.
